NAfME Collegiate

Advocacy Summit Virtual Keynote

OPPORTUNITY: Susan Smith, Chair of the Collegiate Advisory Council with the National Association for Music Education, reached out to Fran Kick to present a virtual keynote address that would open the 2022 NAfME Collegiate Advocacy Summit.

RESULT: All NAfME Collegiate members and advisors joined virtually for the start of the NAfME Collegiate Advocacy Summit on June 24, 2022. Because Fran was already scheduled to be at the Music for All Summer Symposium Leadership Weekend, he created a prerecorded keynote that was designed to kick off the event. The summit was an opportunity to network and collaborate with fellow music education majors from around the United States. It featured discussions on post-pandemic advocacy, equity in music education, and career planning for the music educator. There were virtual interactive breakout sessions so college students, collegiate advisors, and current music educators could interact, share, and learn together

IN ADDITION: Fran Kick created a series of short promotional social media videos for the 2022 NAfME Collegiate PreCon Forum such as this one:

“This was my second time attending the Virtual Advocacy Summit. Not only did it live up to my expectations again this year, but the collegiate board went above and beyond to make this year’s conference incredibly relevant and helpful to students. I made fantastic connections with collegiate students across the country as we had a virtual mixer, many opportunities to converse with each other, and were greatly encouraged to reach out to those whose ideas inspired us. Overall, the Collegiate Summit was a fantastic way to spend a weekend. I was encouraged, educated, and informed. I will most definitely choose to attend again if given the opportunity.”

The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Collegiate chapters host professional development and music advocacy events providing a variety of leadership development opportunities for college music majors.

The video is awesome and just what I needed right now.
